Indian Airways India-From Rapid Growth To The Current Recession

By Nevelle Bronomichi Xavier

Jet Airways - India has acquired almost 100 aircraft in their operational fleet in fewer than twenty years of operation. Some of the worlds most sophisticated and advanced passenger airliners are flown by them. One example of this are the ten Boeing 777-300 ER (Extended Range) aircraft that are in their fleet. More from the same company include over 50 Boeing 737 next-generation airliners consisting of the (-)700/800/900 aircraft. The omnipresent Airbus A330-200 carriers are also operated by Jet Airways. Because the company is young, it could have chosen to buy older aircraft. They chose not to do so, and now the company is known to one of the youngest fleets of air carries in the the entire worlds aviation community.

Due to the decline of global economic conditions in the last decade, Indian Airlines along with all the other commercial airlines have had to take serious measures. The company suspended flight operations to London, Brussels, Shanghai and San Francisco California. The expansion of the service destinations had been in the works until those measures were announced. While not being placed on permanent hold, all expansion ideas were suspended indefinitely. The assets of the company have had to be re-configured which included canceling orders for new aircraft, the leasing of aircraft and other necessary measures.

Airlines in competition with each other often create alliances and Indian Airways did that with Kingfisher Airlines, another Indian air passenger carrier. For total air passengers carried in India, in the last quarter of 2010, Kingfisher came in second only to Jet Airlines. The basics of this agreement allows for a code-share that affects international flights and domestic routes. Also, the two airlines have decided to join forces in a number of infrastructure and service programs in order to reduce expenses. There probably were some jobs lost when they did this which is unfortunate even though it is obvious that it was financially helpful for the companies as a whole.

Seats are extra wide and arranged two by tow in Premier Class. Measuring 40 inches across the Premier class seats are extra wide. Each seat also offers a wide-screen LCD monitor for various uses. The Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft offers an Economy Class. A personal wide-screen LCD is also included in these accommodations. Indian Airlines is known as the first airline that offered its passengers in-flight entertainment systems on the B-737. The seats in the Economy Class are configured at 3 x 3 across while in the Premier Class they are configured at 2 x 2 across.

Indian Airways India isn't yet twenty years old but it's growing at an incredible rate and has innovative management and aggressive marketing plans. You need to give the founders of Indian Airways a lot of credit; in spite of all of the monumental challenges facing India and its society today, they have still managed to take their company incredibly far.

Choosing the right air carrier is just half the battle when you are traveling. The other half is choosing the right lodge when you get there. Talk with your tour operator for additional information.
